Networking Requirements
This server must be on the management network and valid IP addressing must be available prior to install.
Database Requirements
A database server located - Local or Remote
Licensing Requirements
A valid VMware license file (denoted with the extension “.lic”) must be available prior to installation.
Loading VMware License File
The next step is to load the VMware License File onto the VMware Virtual Infrastructure Server. This file should be provided to you, called vmware.lic. .
The vmware.lic file looks similar to the below:
Installation Steps
Install SQL server 2000
Local or Remote and create a Virtual Center Database with the necessary security.
- Insert the VMware VirtualCenter CD into the server. The CD should automatically launch. Choose “VirtualCenter Management Server”
- Click Next
- Accept the terms of the End User License Agreement and click Next
- Enter the correct User Name and Organization name and Click Next
- Enter the destination directory and click Next
- Select “Typical” setup and click Next
- Choose “Use and existing database server” and click Next
- Click on ODBC DSN setup, and click Next
- On the “OBDC Data Source Administrator” screen, click the “System DSN” tab. Choose “Add” to add a new System Data Source
- Scroll down and choose “SQL Server” on the “Create New Data Source” screen. Click Finish
- The “Create a New Data Source to SQL Server” wizard appears. Complete the wizard with the necessary information and connect to the SQL server.
- On the next screen of the wizard, click “Change the default databse to:” and choose “VMware Database (created previously)” in the drop down box. Click Next
- Click Finish
- Click “Test Data Source” and make sure the test completed successfully.
- Once the tests have been successful, click on OK to complete the DSN setup
- Enter the DSN Name, Username and Password and click Next
- Choose to install and configure the VMware VirtualCenter License Server. Click Next
- Browse to the location of the License File and click Next
- Set the ports for the VMware VirtualCenter Web Service and click Next
- Leave the default port for Apache Tomcat and place a check mark in both of the boxes. Click Next
- Click Install
- Click Finish
