NIC Settings for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Clusters

8:32 PM

Microsoft Windows Server 2008 clusters are very sensitive to changes in DNS. We have experienced cluster failover during maintenance windows when work is being completed on DNS settings Enterprise wide. These changes had no effect on pre-2008 clusters or non-Windows clusters. Therefore these smalls steps need to be taken to ensure proper configuration.
  1. Open the properties window for the Network and Sharing Center.
  2. Click on Change adapter settings on the left hand side of the window.
  3. Select the NIC team and open properties.
  4. In the properties window IP V4 and click on the Properties button.
  5. When you click on the Properties button the IP V4 Properties window will open.
  6. On this window you want to click on the Advanced button in the lower right-hand corner.
  7. When you click on the Advanced button the Advanced TCP/IP Settings window will open.
  8. With this window open click on the second tab, DNS.
  9. At the bottom of the window you will see a check box labeled Register this connection's addresses in DNS.
  10. MAKE SURE THIS BOX IS NOT CHECKED.
  11. After you have confirmed the box is unchecked you have completed the check for the cluster.
