The easiest way to tell when the OS was installed on a particular host is to check the creation date
of the /boot partition
/sbin/tune2fs -l /dev/sda1 |grep created
Filesystem created: Wed Jun 24 03:22:40 2009
The /boot filesystem (/dev/sda1) on this host was created on June 24, 2009
of the /boot partition
/sbin/tune2fs -l /dev/sda1 |grep created
Filesystem created: Wed Jun 24 03:22:40 2009
